A Great Western Railway cast iron cab side from a 72xx heavy tank locomotive no 7232, this locomotive was designed by G J Churchward and was built in 1926 as a 2-8-0 tank numbered 5267. This locomotive was rebuilt in 1935 as a 2-8-2 by adding a radial axle box system and an extended coal bunker for the South Wales coal traffic. and numbered 7232. Shedded at a number of location including Pontypool road, Ebbw Junction and Severn Tunnel Junction to name but a few. This was a small number of loco with only 54 being built between 191934 and 1939. Withdrawn from service on Friday 21st May 1965 and subsequently scrapped August 1965. When this plate came to us it had been painted some time in the past and the paint was poorly applied. We took the decision to restore the face only and has received a professionally re- painted in our workshops. Including the numbers and border five coats of paint have been applied, it will be noticed some chipping of the top right hand end, this was deliberate so as to clear rivets when fitted to the loco.
