This very early pattern Great Western Railway block bell was produced by the company is their Reading signal works at Caversham Road. It was made as a "split" type meaning the top front section could be removed by the lineman for maintenance. This feature was not successful and most instruments were rebuilt by fitting a complete new top, here they have just replaced to front section. Even better this instrument has its original turned brass bell pedestal which supports the largest example of a Sheep dome bell I've ever seen, a superb tone. This instrument is in excellent condition and in full working order.
