A Senior Station Managers hat , first issue. Issued from, 1964 at the time of the new Corporate Design image introduction to British Rail. This style of hat was issued to the "Top Man" at large rail centres. In practice it would only be worn when public facing, VIP attendance or ceremonial occasion. He was issued a plain dark grey civilian type suit without any embellishments, his hat only identified his rank of authority. From late 1965 these hats were being issued with the British Rail gilt double arrow on a red felt cushion background. This hat is a high quality item manufactured by J Crompton Sons & Webb Ltd, London and in excellent condition with no fading or moth damage.
