This possibly unique signal bell code training instrument is an amazing find. This apparatus is equipped with three block bell tappers, the outer one have a bell striker attached to the tapper ends and when depressed strike the corresponding bell. The middle tapper is used to demonstrate the "mode of signalling" by representing "BOX B" which is where the trainee is always positioned and "BOX A & B" are either side, the trainer could use the middle tapper to test students on bell signal recognition. The outer tappers to reply with the relevant codes. This item was most likely made by W.R.Sykes and the tappers are marked as such and the pair of thumbscrews are classic Sykes. This item has been through our workshops as cleaning and freeing off of seized parts, it was at this stage that the full identity was discovered.
