Every single block bell has its own character and this ones no exception, this very old instrument has had a long history and originally started out as a "GONG" type with a wire sounder and a wooden sound box for amplification, the underside of the lid has GONG stamped in. This split case type with 2 brass button screws in the front top lid, these were removed and filled in with wood plugs and this modification is clearly visible. A very large "sheep dome" bell is supported on a substantial brass turned pedestal. This instrument is in tested working order and with an all-over superb patina.
