Product Description
A smokebox numberplate, 80056, from a BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T built at Brighton and allocated new to Polmadie in December 1954. It moved to Eastfield in December 1962 from where it was withdrawn in June 1964 but reinstated by the London Midland Region two months later at Lostock Hall before being cut up at Crewe Works the following November. When this plate came to use it had been lightly face repainted, we decided to put it in our chemical removal tank which although is not for stripping paint it will removed modern paint and leave baked on lead paint intact! after several hours of gentle soaking the original British Railways paint was exposed. As the pictures show all the old hardened layers of paint are visible! This treatment has given the plate its origional ex loco look. At some stage the shed staff painted the plate Caledonian Blue with white border, This was also done to many shedcode plates from the former C.Rly lines. The rear is in original ex loco condition.
