Product Description
A stunning example of an early Great Western Railway made block bell, this is known as a "Split case" because of the removable sections at the front of the instrument case. The lineman could remove the 2 brass button screws with a special tool and the lift the top peice and slide out the front panel giving access to the tapper assembly. The intention was to allow the signalman uninterupted use of the instrument, in practice it was the rear line coil contacts which needed servining so the idea was abandoned and eventually this bells were fitted with plain tops. This instrument has a brass turned bell pedestal which supports a fine sounding bell, The instrument is in first class working order.
