In the 1880s, reclaimed land that had been Ray Island was developed by the Great Eastern RailwayCompany (GER) as a railway depot for import/export trade with the European mainland. The new port was named Parkeston Quay, after Charles Henry Parkes (1816-1895), Chairman of the GER. This Great Eastern Railway 8" dial clock manufactured by Seth Thomas, the clock was installed in the Police Department at Parkeston Station . The clock has been overhauled by Simon Turner of Railway Clocks, a new mainspring has also been fitted. The face is in original condition and retains its Ivorine number plate. Winding instructions are included along with a copy of the clocks records, a key is also included. The case work is clean and has a very nice patina, there is a split in the wood bezel but this does not distract from the clocks overal appearance. This clock is ready to live in a new home!
