A BR-WR signal lamp complete with a Tyres & Co "Pyrometer", this device is effectively a thermal switch, when the lamp is lit the heat produced causes a bi-metalic metal strip to expand and complete a circuit. This circuit conects with a lamp indicator instrument in the signal box to indicate to the signalman the lamp is lit, shoul the lamp go out then the metal strip contracts and breaks the circuit causing the indicator in the box to show Lamp out and a bell rings. This lamp has a "G.W.R. Reading" stamped reservior with burner and a signal lamp cast iron bracket nicely mounted on a hard wood base for display.
